On 17th October 1973, approximately 90 people crammed into a room above the Coleherne and created Motor Sport Club (MSC) London, one of the oldest of 10 clubs in the UK and Ireland and nearly 50 throughout Europe for gay and bisexual men into leather, motorbikes and other fetish clothing, including rubber, uniforms, boots, skinhead gear and sports kit. Formed at a time when there was no established commercial leather scene, the club quickly became a focus for men into our styles of fetish gear. Currently, we have approximately 65 members and hold monthly social gatherings and several special weekend events throughout the year.
MSC London can be whatever you want it to be. For some it’s a social group, for others is a safe and relaxed place to wear leather, rubber, uniform or skinhead gear in the company of like minded guys. It can, if you want it to be, be the gateway to meet guys into similar things as yourself for more ‘playful’ activities throughout the UK and Europe. Members tend to be fiercely loyal to one other and you will most probably make genuine and longstanding friendships as well as finding more transient, pleasurable encounters!
MSC London is affiliated to the Fellowship of United Kingdom Clubs (FUKC), an umbrella organization which coordinates the events and parties of the member clubs at an annual conference weekend hosted by one of the clubs in the summer. We were also one of the founder members of the much larger European Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs (ECMC) which has a total membership of about 4500. ECMC is governed by its Annual General Meeting held in the autumn of each year over a weekend, hosted by one of the member clubs. The ECMC has member clubs in some 16 countries. These organize a packed calendar of themed parties, meetings, bike runs and weekends for their members. All the clubs share a common membership card, so a member of one ECMC club can attend events organized by another ECMC clubs at members’ rates, provided he follows the dress code required by the host club. Once a year, each club also organizes its ‘ECMC event’ to which members of other clubs are especially invited.
We also have close links with the commercial gay leather scene, most notably The Hoist, Fetish Freak and Expectations. In September 2006, we jointly hosted a very successful party with Expectations at their Great Eastern Street premises which included 20% discounts on purchases. Recently we have also held successful events at Fetish Freak, next to the Hoist, at which Jonathan had kindly offered generous discounts to members for purchases on the day.
MSC London is governed by a constitution and an Annual General Meeting held each March which elects a small, voluntary committee comprising a President, Secretary and Treasurer plus up to five other full members to oversee the smooth running of the club for the next twelve months. Any full member can stand for office provided he can get two other full members to propose him.
